Playing The Games of Life
Accepting Your Fate or Creating A Destiny
When you were born, you were given a box of life to play with. Inside that box is a puzzle made up of many interlocking pieces. Each piece represents one aspect of your potential. Looked at separately each jigsaw puzzle seems like a random bit of information. But when you put each piece in its proper place, they form a picture of who you are and who you can become.
Unfortunately, most of us have never opened the box to find out who we are. Instead we are shaped by the limitations of our environment and the opinions of those around us. The end result is that we become reflections of our early conditioning and our culture instead of who we truly are meant to be. And so our self image and our fate are sealed by what others see as possible for us.
It is easy to understand why few people have solved their puzzle. There are few guides to show us the way and lots of urgent things to do -- getting good grades in school, finding a good job, raising a family and paying the rent. And there are lots of distractions -- a great movie on TV, a nightstand with a pile of books, a floor that needs cleaning. With the click of a remote or a mouse we have entertainment and news available 24.7.365. So slowing down to get real with ourselves and taking the time to look within to learn who we are can seem boring and not very important. Yet, the irony is that finding out who you are is just the opposite. It's more like seeking treasure buried deep inside than taking out the trash and cleaning the bathroom -- and a who lot more rewarding.
Learning who you are also scares some people -- because once you know who you are you are no longer wandering around lost in the dark. With the knowledge of who you are comes the ability to overcome your fate, choose your destiny and chart a path to it. Some people would prefer the easy way of just letting life happen to them instead of the hard but thrilling work of making their dream come true. They prefer the illusion of safety that comes from sitting on the sidelines of life instead of getting into the game and taking on the risk of both winning or failing.
Most people see life as a game made up of two opposites -- winning and losing. We see the game of life differently -- as a choice between fate and destiny.
- Fate is what happens if you never open the box and solve the puzzle of who you are.
- Destiny is what you create if you solve the puzzle and manifest one or more of the possibilities defined by your potential.
Keeping score (winning and losing) depends on which game you are playing. With fate, you win if you get lucky or know how to turn every tragedy into a blessing. If you choose the game of destiny -- you automatically win the game of fate because you transcend it. Now the challenge comes from working with your potential and seeing how many of your dreams you can make come true. Since you are taking responsibility for your life, you are the one who decides what winning looks like and how well you are playing the game.
At this point you may be wondering exactly what is involved in choosing to play the game of destiny -- and who can teach you the basics of how to win.
