Finding The Right Gift
How often do we find the right gift? The perfect present that expresses how much you love, respect or value someone? The "it is soooo me ..." gift that will allow them to take the next step in their journey through life or turn their dreams into reality?
For many of us, we can remember only a handful of presents that touched our hearts and spoke clearly that the giver understood who we truly are. The rest were ... useful or practical or aimed at who we used to be. Some presents were totally out in left field. And then there were the "clearly you were desperate and the store was closing in five minute" choices.
So, how do you find the right present?
First, learn what it is. The secret to giving great gifts is easy to learn. It starts with understanding the dreams of the recipient and what they need to further them. So,
- Focus on their dreams and how to help them come true
- Identify the activities and experiences they love ... and give them a gift certificate for that, or some of the tools that help them do it.
- Look for what can make their life easier or bring more joy into it
- Explore the things they already love to work with or surround themselves with, and then see if you can top it or add the perfect item to their collection
- Can you find something that reflects the places they love to be and are inspired by?
It all depends on you, your pocketbook and how much love you want to invest. Once you have an idea of what you are looking for ...
Where should you start looking?
This can be tricky ... because if you look in the wrong place it can be like looking for snow cones in the Amazon. You know its true ... for some people you can trawl the entire mall or online catalog and not find a thing.
