Beautiful Tarot Cards

 

       

 

The Wise Woman leaned over and peered at me over the rim of her glass. Or was it glasses? I blinked and tried to get my eyes to focus, by they just rolled over like a contented dog in front of the fireplace. When had he arrived, I wondered to myself.

"Enough!" the Wise Woman said. "It's time you got some fresh air. Too long pouring over ancient books can give anyone a stuffy noise headache."

The words swam in front of me. My eyes turned towards the windows, where a warm evening breeze had started to move the trees about outside.

"I was just ..." I trailed off as her raised hand waved a series of intricate movements, and I realized slowly that she her hand was dancing with a fly, swirling around it.

"What are you doing?" I just had to ask.

"I thought it would get your attention. Obviously it worked." Her words sunk in slowly, and I shook my head. Was I as fuzzy as I felt?

"As fuzzy as any new peach ..." her answer stirred to curtains to let in the scent of the flowering peach trees outside and I sat back and smelled them.

"What are they?" I asked. "They smell heavenly".

"Immortal peaches. Imported from the Orient. Now, if you are done with the questions, here is a task for you. Find a beautiful deck of tarot cards for me." Her request surprised me into opening my eyes and leaning forward to look closer at what lay before me.

"Is there such a thing?" I Asked. My voice wobbled as much as my chair under the strain I placed on it leaning forward on just the two front legs.

"Hmm..." was her only answer, so I turned my eyes towards the images swimming towards me.

 

Ancient decks and decks with gilded edges leapt up and caught my eye.

"What would you get as your first deck?" her words underscored her genuine curiosity in my choice. "Something beautiful? EAsy to understand? Or just what spoke to you?"

    

I took a closer look ...

 

My eyes roamed freely across the pages ... but one spoke to me. "That One .." I spoke softly, not sure if the words had made it across the table. Had I fallen in love with a pack of cards? Was it possible to have love at first sight?

Wasn't that just a myth?
