"Relax. The only thing that requires jogging is your memory. Your childhood was filled with lots of exploring and dreaming and play acting. And that is where we need to start.

"Are you ready to start?" she asked.

"Absolutely," I answered. I had been ready for a while, but she had been right. I was a bit shy and nervous. And I still didn't quite know what to expect. But I did feel more comfortable and confident about the process.

 

The Process of Discovery

"One thing I have learned is that talking about someone's gifts and talents, what makes them unique and great ... can get very personal. Getting personal makes some people feel uptight. And when you feel uptight, or shy, your answers get uptight too. You say less ... and that is what we want to avoid."

"Okay," I said and nodded. Was this gonna be like sitting on a therapist's couch? Should I lie back and get comfortable?

"You want to get comfortable. Put on some music you love in the background. Go grab a beverage or something you love to munch on. And if there is anything that you need to do ... that you have been putting off ... now is the time to go do it. Clean the bottom of the fridge ... write that term paper ... do your taxes ..."

"You're kidding, right?" I asked.

"Actually, no. This type of self discovery can release a lot of energy ... and you want to use it for whatever has been holding you back ... or keeping you up at nights ... or that needs doing that you have been putting off. No need to waste perfectly good energy. Use it. Go do it. And then come back when you are done. The positive wave of having finally tackled that project or chore that has been hanging over your head will help you ... trust me on that."

"So, anything else you need to go do before we start?" Star asked gently.

My mind went to that list in my head ... there was something that had been bugging me ... that I had been putting off for a while. Why was the need to do it starting up a drum beat in my head? That was strange ...

"Take your time. I'll be here ..."
